What is this “seven fast”?
If you didn’t see our initial post about what “the seven fast” is, check it out here! This is just an update and a rough outline of how we plan on going about the next seven months of fasting in preparation for our transition out of the military into full-time missions on a foreign field.
When are we starting?
We are going to begin on July 5th. Conveniently after Independence Day!
In the book, Seven, Jen Hatmaker fasts in each of the seven areas for 4 weeks and takes breaks in between each month for about 2 weeks totaling ten months. We are choosing to approach the layout a little differently and if you are choosing to partner with us by fasting and praying, please feel free to modify your fast however works best for you! We are choosing to fast in each of the seven areas for three weeks, taking off one week in between, planning to complete in seven months, Lord willingJ!
What are the 7 areas?
Of course, the fast begins with a big bang, fasting in the area of food! Over the next three weeks we can only eat 7 food items. Our food choices are:
- Whole-wheat bread
- Sweet potatoes
Notice there is no coffee…sigh…I’m not sure I’m ready for this. But I’m entirely sure I’m going to have to rely dearly on God to function, not die, or to not kill someone over these three weeks without my beloved coffee. Help me sweet Jesus!

We are so excited and looking forward to what God will accomplish in the next seven months! I know He will move powerfully as we remove distractions, our abundance. I agree with Jen’s sentiment, “I’m anxious about turning the soil…[but] it’s the means to the harvest.”
